Sandeep Madhavan: Bass & Spoken Word
Founder member of the seminal Bangalore jazz-rockedelic outfit Aatma, drum ‘n’ bass terrorists B-Side and brains behind the wayward bass trio known as the Bangalore Bass Brigade, Sandeep has been part of the city’s music scene since early 2000. He has lent his bass playing and songwriting skills to several Bangalore bands (Flying Dingos, Intestinal Butchery) and formed Old Jungle Saying in early 2005.
Sandeep is a freelance writer, author, sessions musician, producer and voice artist. When not found laying down the groove, he can be found scorching highways leading out of the city, usually on doomed biking expeditions that land him in places off the map.
Influences: Les Claypool, Dave LaRue, Stu Hamm, Stanley Clarke, Geezer Butler, Michael Manring and Flea.
Uses: Washburn, Peavey, Gallien Krueger, Stranger, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, EMG, Dunlop, GHS, D’Addario, Planet Waves, Schaller, Sennheiser.
Greg Hamra: Drums
Not long after stepping off the airplane in late 2004, Greg quickly mainstreamed himself into the Bangalore music scene when he joined Aatma to play Bangalore Habba in December, 2004. Since then he has performed with various bands including Aatma, Yell-O, Barracuda Blues Band, Old Jungle Saying and others. Aside from drumming, Greg is a communication skills trainer and a voice over artist. He is a master of many tongues, except his own.
Influences: Peart, Bonham, Dennis, “Herb”, Chad Smith, Jimmy Chamberlin, Matt Abts, Animal, many more.
Uses: Tama, Zildjian, DW, Vic Firth, Latin Percussion, Remo heads.
Hemanth Nickle: Guitar
Our new whiz-kid axeman. He shares his guitar skills with OJS and his other band, Haven as well as the classroom where he teaches budding young guitarists how to shred. Hemanth is a bit ‘choppier’ (than Mel, who is an incredible rhythm player) which means our songs have developed a meaner, harder edge. We welcome this change with open ears.
Influences: Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, John Petrucci
Uses: Fender ... or whatever else he can borrow when his guitar is in the shop.
Aditya Menon: Vocals (but usually M.I.A.)
Give Aditya an acoustic guitar and he turns into a jukebox. A whirling dervish on stage, Aditya simmers into quintessential nice guy away from it. He’s been singing all his life, but got his first break in 2001 with the band Synapse. Looking to join a bunch of musicians intent on pushing the envelope, Aditya jumped on board OJS in the latter half of 2005.
